When Monique Aulich's newborn daughter was four weeks old, she knew something was not right.

"I was struggling with suicidal ideation at home and intrusive thoughts," she said.
"They were really distressing. I didn't know what to do with them, I'd never had them before."
Ms Aulich had been speaking to a counsellor, who suggested she go to the Bendigo Health perinatal mental health unit.
The therapist told her staff there could help with medications quickly.
